Evangelista knew she wanted to be a model when she was just 12 years old. When she was 15, a modeling scout noticed her in the Miss Teen Niagara Contest. She later signed up with the Elite Model Agency in New York City before moving to Paris to develop her career.
Evangelista has appeared in advertisements for companies such as American Express, Anne Klein, Bloomingdale's, Calvin Klein, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, and Gianni Versace. Magazine covers include Cosmopolitan, Vogue, Allure, and Harper's Bazaar. 
There is more to this model's life than just posing for pictures. She spends some of her free time raising awareness for breast cancer research in memory of her grandmother and family friend who suffered from the disease. Evangelista also enjoys playing poker and playing the accordion.;;
