She auditioned for a spot on the Disney Channel's The New Mickey Mouse Club. Spears did not get the part, but she did eventually achieve one childhood dream: showcasing her vocal talents on the popular entertainment competition Star Search in 1992.

She was picked for the cast, which also featured other up-and-coming talents such as Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, and actress Keri Russell. Spears appeared on the children's variety show for two seasons. "We had an amazing amazing time; we got to sing and dance and do everything.

Zoe Saldana made the transition to acting on screen after an attention-getting performance in the stage musical "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." Saldana began landing television and feature roles almost immediately, including "Center Stage" (2000), in which she was able to showcase her years of ballet training.

She did make fleeting appearances in large studio fare like "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" (2003) and "The Terminal" (2004). Eventually, Saldana managed to break free from the confines of broad comedy.

Saldana and her two sisters were raised by their parents in nearby Queens, NY. When she was nine, Saldana's father died in a car accident, forcing her mother to relocate the family to the Dominican Republic, where both her parents were born and had extended family.

A natural and charismatic performer, she joined several dance troops in New York City, including the FACES Theater Co., a group that specialized in improvisational and educational skits for teens. She was also part of the New York Youth Theater.

Tina Fey’s now famous impersonations of Sarah Palin first appeared on Saturday Night Live (SNL) on September 13th of last year. Fey had left the show the previous year and was returning as a guest star. The appearance was affectionately mocking, with Fey - a dead ringer for Palin.

The next month, Fey appeared on another Palin sketch on SNL. It earned the highest ratings for the show in 14 years and also helped boost the viewers for her current project, the critically acclaimed sitcom, 30 Rock.

The venue was an ideal launching pad for the Pennsylvanian writer as it capitalised on her sketch-writing skills and gave her an opportunity to act in front of a live audience. It remains a Petri dish of budding comic talent, with a list of alumni that any theatre would be proud.

Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, Alan Arkin, Joan Rivers, Mike Myers and Steve Carrell all started off there. It was in Second City that Fey met numerous future co-stars of Saturday Night Live and a writer that would give her the biggest break of her career.

Spiderman actress Kirsten Dunst had over 50 television and film appearances under her belt by the time she was 25 years old. The girl-next-door with the proudly crooked smile was unique among her generation of young actresses, due to her ability to carry a fun romp like "Spider-Man" (2002).

The Virgin Suicides" (1999) and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" (2004). Audiences had seen few actresses not only survive the transition from child actor to teen to adult actor, but even less who moved so easily between genres and pleased.

A German executive and a Swedish art gallery owner, Kirsten (pronounced KEER-sten) Dunst was born on April 30, 1982, in Point Pleasant, NJ. By the time her younger brother Christian was born four years later, dimpled, fair-haired Kirsten was already on her way to becoming a movie star.

Actress Liv Tyler's career began with fashion modeling and press curiosity over the fact that she was the daughter of legendary rock band Aerosmith's front man Steven Tyler.

Hollywood was at somewhat of a loss over Tyler's unusual onscreen presence, which was too mature and ethereal for standard teen films. She was underused in blockbusters like "Armageddon" (1998) but steadily created empathetic and introspective characters for independent directors like Robert Altman and James Mangold.

Her's otherworldly serenity with a hugely popular fantasy franchise. After she hit the age of 30, the actress yearned to stretch her range and reached larger audiences with the thriller. Her mother, Bebe Buell, had been a Playboy Playmate only three years prior, and was known on the New York scene for dating rock stars including Rod Stewart.

She spent her early years in Portland, ME, where she shuttled between her mother's crazy household full of artists and musicians and the homes of her grandparents and aunt. Tyler discovered that Rundgren was not biologically her father when she was 11 years old, and when her mom moved her to New York City at the age of 12, the girl - who had already been through a whirlwind - longed for a normal, stable family life.

Actress Leah Remini is pure Horatio Alger (in a petticoat). Dropping out of school at the age of 14, she experienced the cruel world from the vantage of waitress, cashier and telemarketer, among other vocations, before landing an agent and a one-line role on Head of the Class.

She made steady progress in the sitcom world, snagging regular roles in the short-lived likes of "Living Dolls" (ABC, 1989), "Man in the Family" (ABC, 1991) and "First Time Out" (The WB, 1995).

Though those series tanked, Remini managed to get excellent exposure in two recurring roles on popular shows: from 1991-93 she played Carla's rebellious daughter Sarafina in NBC's long-running "Cheers", and 1993 saw her as Daisy in episodes of "Evening Shade" (CBS).

She also made guest appearances on many series, including "Blossom" (NBC), "NYPD Blue" (ABC) and "Friends" (NBC).Remini had, however, lent an authentic New York voice to "Fired Up", and her stock for portraying "tough" somewhat in the style of Fran Drescher was going through the roof.

She took time to fall in love and later marry Tyler Christopher, formally of General Hospital. Rumor has it they have since filed for divorce.Over 21 million people tuned in for the premiere of Desperate Housewives, skyrocketing it to the highest ranking new show of it's season.

Sexy Eva was one of the show's stars. Her character, Gabrielle, has everything she ever wanted but isn't content or happy. A far cry from the actress who plays her. She's humble beginnings started with modeling and beauty pageants in her home state of Texas.

Actress Claire Danes was barely in her teens when she made a significant impact on primetime television with the startling authenticity, intelligence and complexity she brought to her starring role on the landmark drama "My So-Called Life" (ABC, 1994-95).

Following the beloved show's early demise, Danes headed straight for dramatic feature films, maintaining her "thinking teen" persona in Baz Luhrman's "Romeo + Juliet" (1996) and the Academy Award-nominated "The Hours" (2002). While Danes branched out with comedies including.

She was born April 12, 1979, and raised in then up-and-coming SoHo by artistic parents. She was learning modern dance at six, and at age nine, began taking acting classes at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. Her career began in off-off-Broadway productions "Happiness," "Punk Ballet" and "Kids on Stage," for which she choreographed a solo dance piece.

Actress Amber Valletta hit the runway in her late teens, and, though a frequent presence in fashion ads for several years prior, first made national headlines in July 1993. That summer, under representation by Boss Models, the svelte 19-year-old Oklahoman blonde upstaged heavyweight Cindy_Crawford as the primary spokeswoman for Capezio handbags -- and turned more than a few heads in the process.

Not long after, Valletta also signed on as the chief spokeswoman for Elizabeth Arden. In 1996, Valletta succeeded Crawford again -- this time as the co-host (alongside Shalom_Harlow) of MTV's hit documentary series House of Style.

The by-now-familiar program found Valletta and Harlow carrying viewers behind the scenes of the fashion world, and (in the process) covered everything from runway preparation to before-the-camera apparel to anorexia nervosa. In 1999, Valletta's modeling intersected with social work when she helped raise over 350,000 dollars for the St.

Jude Royal Gala Benefit in Monte Carlo, and later parlayed that effort into a promotional tour for Elizabeth Arden Splendor perfume that had Valletta and other company reps giving terminally ill children heartstring-tugging "moments of splendor.

Actress Allison Mack was born July 29, 1982 in Preez, Germany. Her father, opera singer Jonathan Mack, was performing with a local company, and Allison spent her first two years there. Who knew that this rather uneventful beginning would lead to a starring role in the new hit show Smallville. Smallville involves the life of Clark Kent (soon to realize he is the famed Superman) as a teenager.

She plays Chloe Sullivan, one of Clark's good friends. The show airs on Tuesday nights at 9pET/PT on The WB. After moving home to Southern California, Allison began her career at the age of four, doing commercials and print work. When she was seven she began taking acting classes at The Young Actors Space and soon started working theatrically.

She has starred in many prestigious movies for television, working with such highly repsected actors as Sissy Spacek and Aiden Quinn in HBO's A Private Matter; Peter Coyoteand Jill Eichenberry in Living A Lie; Mary Tyler Moore in The Care and Handling of Roses; and with Dolly Parton in Unlikely Angel.

She also recently was seen on the Showtime Movie, My Horrible Year, also starring Eric Stoltz (in his directorial debut), and Mimi Rogers. Allison has been seen on the big screen in Camp Nowhere, and had a fun time working on the Disney video feature Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves.

Titanic actress Kate Winslet was born October 5, 1975 in Reading, England. She was born into an family of people in the theatre, and it seemed to Kate that it was the natural thing to do to go into it. Her first role ever was a the Virgin Mary, at age 5. From that point on, she had caught the acting bug.She attended Redroofs, a performing arts school in Maidenhead, until age 16.

Her first job was in a Sugar Puffs cereal commercial. After that, she appeared in a few television series. On one of them, Dark Season, she met Stephan Tredre, many years her senior, who became Kate's first real love interest. They were together for quite some time, and continued to be extremily close. Stephan passed away in December, of cancer, causing Kate to miss the Hollywood premier of Titanic.

During her childhood, and into her teen years, Kate's 5'6'' frame weighed as much as 185 pounds, which led to her to acquire the nickname ''Blubber'' in school. Her weight has since become a non-issue in my opinion, but one that still causes her to get press about. Personally, one of the reasons why I like Kate is that she looks like a normal person, not someone who looks like they have been stranded on a desert island for five months eating nothing but berries and moss.Anyway, Kate's first movie role was in Heavenly Creatures, the much acclaimed New Zealand film about the true story oftwo girls whose relationship becomes so close that it causes them to do a drastic thing to be together.

She plays one of those girls, Juliet Hulme. After Heavenly Creatures in 1994, Kate had a role in Disney's A Kid in King Arthurs Court, as Princess Sarah and her Oscar-nominated role a Marianne Dashwood in Sense and Sensibility, both movies released in 1995. She followed up with the part of Sue Bridehead in Jude and Ophelia in Kenneth Branagh's wonderous Hamlet.Currently, Kate has the starring role (she beats out Leonardo in my mind) in James Cameron's amazing, heart-wrenching, wonderful Titanic, as Rose Dewitt Bukater, the 17-year old wild beauty trapped in the heart of Philidelphia high society.

Hayden Panettiere and equally at home in earnest drama and mainstream comedy, Hayden Panettiere began her career as a child model and soap opera actress. As a preteen, she worked steadily as a voice-over actor in family films like "A Bug's Life" (1998) and "Dinosaur" (2000) before a recurring role as the long-lost daughter of "Ally McBeal" (Fox, 1997-2002) raised the actress' profile.

Her energy and spunky can-do persona made her well cast for competitive teen features like "Ice Princess" (2005) and "Bring it On: All or Nothing" (2006), both of which helped lead to her major career breakthrough as a high school cheerleader endowed with superpowers in the primetime phenomenon, "Her s" (NBC, 2006-10). The show brought Panettiere to the attention of worshipful fanboys who had never met a cheerleader they did not like, giving the still young actress the tricky challenge of balancing both the sexy and the innocent as she moved into adulthood.

With her first mainstream starring film role in the high school romantic comedy "I Love You Beth Cooper" (2009), Panettiere proved that mining her All-American girl persona was her ticket to big screen success.Panettiere was born Aug. 21, 1989, just outside of New York City, NY. Her mother - a former actress and model - thought she would get some nice baby pictures out of seeing her only daughter in commercials, so she began bringing her on auditions.

Thus an 11 month old Panettiere began her career in a commercial for Playskool. At four years old, she landed a regular role as Sarah Roberts on the daytime soap opera "One Life to Live" (ABC, 1968- ), where she stayed until 1996 when she moved over to CBS to play Lizzie Spaulding on "Guiding Light" (CBS, 1952-2009). During her four years as Spaulding, Panettiere was put through some serious acting challenges, including battling leukemia, getting kidnapped, and shooting her mother's boyfriend.

Emma Roberts and the niece of "America's Sweetheart," Julia Roberts, youthful actress Emma Roberts seemed almost destined by blood to go into the family business. Her first professional claim to fame, however, came on the small screen for her role as junior high school student Addie Singer in the popular children's television series "Unfabulous" (Nickelodeon, 2004-07).

Like her famous relatives, she eventually made the move to the big screen, starring in "Aquamarine" (2006), "Nancy Drew" (2007), "Hotel for Dogs" (2009) and "Valentine's Day" (2010). While her famous lineage may have helped her start down the path to stardom, her talent kept her moving ahead rapidly. She was born on Feb. 10, 1991 in Rhinebeck, NY. Split by her parents' divorce soon after her birth, little Emma grew up primarily with her mother, Julia Cunningham.

Although Eric and Julia were long estranged, Emma, by all accounts, always grew up very close to her look-alike aunt - making her foray into show business almost inevitable. In fact, even when Julia and Eric had fallings out through the years, Emma remained extremely close to her aunt. Roberts made her acting debut at age nine in the 2001 drama, "Blow" directed by Ted Demme.

Although she was cast in the role of Kristina Jung, (the daughter of Johnny Depp's character, cocaine smuggler George Jung), most of her scenes ended up on the cutting room floor due to time considerations. Fortunately, Roberts would get some belated screen time a year later in "Grand Champion" (2002), a drama starring Joey Lauren Adams. Roberts' follow-up, "Spymate" (2003), cast her as the daughter of a former spy played by Chris Potter.

Jessica Alba born in Pomona, CA on April 28, 1981,she was the daughter of a Mexican-American father and a French-Danish mother. Alba's early life was marked by a series of unfortunate physical maladies. In addition to asthma, Alba twice suffered from collapsed lungs, a burst appendix and had to endure pneumonia several times a year. This, on top of her obsessive-compulsive disorder, helped serve to isolate her from other schoolchildren.

Luckily, her health eventually took a dramatically positive turn a few years later; an improvement Alba credited to her growing interest in acting. Signed by an agent by the age of 12, Alba made her screen debut with "Camp Nowhere." Alba went on to appear in two national TV commercials for Nintendo and J.C. Penney, which led to her landing a recurring role as the young snob, Jessica, in three episodes of the Nickelodeon comedy series, "The Secret World of Alex Mack."

She then performed the role of Maya Graham in the first two seasons of the TV series, "Flipper" (also known as "The New Adventures of Flipper"). Under the tutelage of her lifeguard mother, Alba learned to swim before she could walk and was a PADI-certified scuba diver - skills which were put to use on the show, which was filmed in Australia. As the fresh-faced, enthusiastic and sweet Maya, the part would provide Alba a nice departure from her previous "mean.

She played Joyce Lakeland, a prostitute and sometime-lover of Affleck's, whom he brutally beats to death on screen. The scene - and a similar one later in the film with Kate Hudson - was so graphic that the film inspired numerous walkouts and angry verbal responses at Sundance, and colored almost every one of the film's mixed reviews. Reports hit the Internet that Alba herself walked out of a screening halfway through, although her rep told the press later that the actress stood by her work and the film, and merely had to catch a flight.
