Leonardo DiCaprio topped it for the first time, flying past last year's winner, Johnny Depp. DiCaprio, 36, landed huge paydays for blockbusters Inception and Shutter Island, reportedly earning over $50 million for the former thanks to a contract guaranteeing him a percentage of the profits. It brought Forbes' grand total of the actor's earnings to $77 million between May 2010 and May 2011.

His earnings last year were approximately $75 million, dropped to number two with $50 million. He was trailed by comedian, actor, singer, producer Adam Sandler. The 44-year-old funnyman earned an estimated $40 million last year.

Will Smith and Tom Hanks rounded out the top five with $36 million and $35 million, respectively. On the actresses list, which was released last month, Angelina Jolie and Sarah Jessica Parker tied for first, both earning $30 million.

Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon also tied for a close spot behind Jolie, 36, and Parker, 46, earning $28 million each. And even though her career has been in a downswing, Julia Roberts came in fifth with $20 million thanks to her mega-hit Eat, Pray, Love.

In evidence that there's still a huge divide between men and women in Hollywood, the highest-earning actresses raked in less than half of DiCaprio's pay. Each year, Forbes compiles data from agents, lawyers, producers and other industry insiders to estimate actors' earnings.

Last year, Julia Roberts was in India to film Eat, Pray Love and converted to Hinduism.

Now back in the US, the pretty woman admits that Hinduism has always intrigued her and along with husband, Danny Moder and their three children
“My children love it. Hazel says that when she grows up, she’s going to live in India. To be in India is to experience it. You don’t have to go looking for India, it’s all right there. For me, visiting the country was an unforgettable experience,” she asserts.
Do her children realise that mommy is a big movie star? “No, they don’t know what I do yet and I like it that way. I want movies to stay special for them for as long as possible. My daughter said to me the other day that Maria in The Sound Of Music sounded a lot like Mary Poppins. I told her that it was because they’re both English,” she chuckles.

Julia is now playing the wicked witch in Snow White. How are the kids going to react to her new role? “This movie came about more out of my interest and a desire to be on board with Tarsem Singh, the director, who is brilliant. His idea of cinema is from another planet altogether,” she raves. “His take on the familiar fairytale is fascinating, what with the sets, the story etc, Tarsem’s version of the Evil Queen is just going to be so fun.”

Julia Roberts remained an iconic figure whose assured, winsome performances underscored her undeniable public appeal. Following a breakthrough role in "Mystic Pizza" (1988), Roberts earned critical acclaim and award recognition for her portrayal of the ill-fated Shelby in "Steel Magnolias" (1989).

She quickly became one of the highest paid stars - male or female - in the world, eventually raking in $25 million for a film. Equally in the limelight for a torrent of high-profile and often rocky romances, Roberts managed to maintain an output of projects that consistently topped the box office.

Despite solid middle class jobs, her parents were also part-time actors who ran the Atlanta-based Actors and Writers Workshop out of their home. But in 1971, her domestic tranquility was shattered when her parents divorced.

She moved the following year to Smyrna, CA with her mother and sister, Lisa, while her brother, Eric, stayed behind with their father. Though she was intent on becoming a veterinarian, Roberts was suddenly interested in acting after landing her first stage role playing Elizabeth Dole in a mock election campaign.

Modeling Girl Kate Moss incredibly thin, boyish body, Moss created quite a stir in the modeling world, launching what became known as the waif look. She started working young after being discovered at the age of 14 at JFK airport in New York.

She became even more famous and sought-after as a model. The advertisements featured her partially nude body, putting her slight figure on display. Some found her young, childlike image beautiful while others thought she was too skinny and might be suffering from an eating disorder.

She has appeared on the cover of more than 300 magazines. Moss also starred in advertising campaigns for many of the top fashion houses, including Chanel and Christian Dior. She received a Fashion Icon award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America in June 2005.

She was reportedly caught snorting cocaine with her boyfriend Pete Doherty. The lead singer of the band Babyshambles, Doherty has been arrested several times on drug-related charges. Because of the scandal that followed, she lost many of her lucrative modeling contracts with such companies as the clothing retailer H&M.
